“Who Is Unknown” utilizes the physical and digital realm to network, and highlight the community of emerging talents in an un-masked ephemeral and travelling physical experience, and in a permanent digital territory. The project utilizes digital fabrication technologies to create a physical display of faces that appear “unknown,” yet are the faces of emerging talent; the installation also contains a “selfie booth,” which permits visitors to take selfies behind an un-gendered mask, underlining the theme of being masked by social media. The digital platform uses #whoisunknown and profiles reposted on social media to connect the audience and participants to our Instagram account @whoisunknownproject and website whoisunknown.com. This project will debut its efforts at the London Design Festival, and subsequently with partnering galleries in Los Angeles and New York, and possibly to various other biennales. This project is made possible in part by the generous support of the Graham Foundation, Ultimaker, Parsons School of Design, NEW inc, and all the current and future innovators and creators. The digital platform uses #whoisunknown and profiles reposted on social media to connect the audience and participants to our Instagram account @whoisunknownproject
WE-DESIGNS designed and produced the physical installation, branding, typography, digital fabrication, digital platform, digital strategy, social media, and experience design of Who Is Unknown.
